Painting ComStar BattleMechs

Painting white is secretly easy!

ComStar is a secretive and technologically advanced faction within the BattleTech universe, originally established to maintain and control the vast interstellar communications network known as the HPG (Hyperpulse Generator) grid. Publicly, they present themselves as neutral stewards of knowledge and communication, but behind the scenes, ComStar operates with quasi-religious fervor, guarding ancient Star League technology and influencing the course of interstellar politics. Their elite military arm, the Com Guards, is known for discipline, advanced equipment, and their distinctive white-painted BattleMechs; a symbol of both purity and enigmatic power.

While many modellers shy away from painting white due to its reputation for being unforgiving and difficult to work with, this short guide will show that achieving a clean, striking white finish is not only possible, but easier than most expect, using only a few simple techniques and a step-by-step approach.

Painting Rocks

A step by step tutorial on how to paint rocks.

Note: This article was originally posted at tinyworlds.co.uk. I have received a number of requests for the information since it was removed.. so I have posted it here for posterity, although I have amended some of the paint names. Welcome to Sumptown!

A Sumptown Table Showcase and some fluff.

Sumptown, situated deep within the heart of the Sump on Necromunda, is a sprawling, chaotic settlement built atop the rancid, bubbling pools of toxic sludge and industrial refuse. Life in Sumptown is as grim as its surroundings, winding alleys and open spaces filled with the sludge of industrial runoff and waste, where the ground is always slick and treacherous. The town is a patchwork of makeshift structures, with buildings constructed from salvaged scrap metal, old machinery, and the rusted remnants of forgotten technology.

Sumptown; a sprawling, chaotic settlement atop the Sump of Necromunda's Underhive.

The air is thick with the acrid scent of polluted mist and the constant murmur of distant machinery—faint echoes of the sprawling, grimy factories that spew their filth into the Sump from above. Artificial lights flicker weakly, casting a dull and eerie glow across the town, while the constant hum of machinery and the distant groans of the hive city above remind the inhabitants of their ever-present struggle for survival.
